AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum) Announces Validity of Digitally Signed Documents for Residency Applications

The Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum)) has announced that digitally signed documents are now accepted for residency applications and renewals in Portugal, aiming to streamline administrative processes amid reported delays.

The Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) has recently announced that digitally signed documents are now accepted for applications and renewals of residence permits in Portugal. This new measure aims to simplify and accelerate administrative procedures during a time when many applicants have expressed concerns over operational delays.

Digitally signed documents can be submitted using the Citizen Card, Digital Mobile Key, and the Professional Attributes Certification System (SCAP). AIMA encourages applicants to opt for digital submission whenever possible, highlighting the importance of accuracy in the documentation to avoid any potential issues that could delay the processing of their applications. This is particularly crucial as some individuals have been waiting for over four years for regularization.

In addition to this update, AIMA has clarified that the renewal of expired Residence Permits for Investment (Golden Visas) now requires the mandatory association of the Tax Identification Number (NIF) with the applicant's registration. Without this association, the renewal process cannot proceed. This clarification comes amid reports of frequent difficulties in entering essential information, such as the NIF and the Social Security Number (NISS), as well as accidental exchanges of personal data.

To assist applicants with technical issues or to request in-person appointments, AIMA has designated the Contact Form on its official portal as the preferred communication method. This initiative aims to mitigate the challenges faced by individuals accessing the Renewal Portal.
